Looking for a family-friendly way to spend a weekend evening? The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department, hosts Movies in the Park every other Saturday during the summer season. The films are screened at Young Park, which sits in the middle of one of Las Cruces’s oldest neighborhoods. The peaceful, easy-to-reach setting is perfect for getting together with family and friends to enjoy a Saturday in the park. Films begin showing right around dusk.
Movies in the Park began back in 2013 with the intention of providing a unique event for all ages right here in town. This completely free event regularly draws in anywhere from 200 to 600 guests, depending on the weekend and the weather.
Parks and Rec’s Claudia Chavez says that community members who have attended Movies in the Park in years past can expect something a little different in 2017. They’ll be hosting games and giveaways based on the movie selection for the day.
“It’s free, the view of the sunset over the pond at Young Park right before the movie starts is breathtaking, and the Parks and Rec staff engages the crowd with music and activities before the movie,” Claudia explains.
Games, prizes, beloved films and an amazing Las Cruces sunset before the show—what more could you really ask for on a Saturday evening?
