Event Details

The Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., will present “STEAMpunk – Amelia Earhart,” at noon Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020. The program is free to the public.

Amelia Earhart, who lived from 1897 to 1937, was the first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean on a solo flight. She pioneered aeronautical engineering for women students until her disappearance during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe in 1937.

Inspired by her work, participants will explore aerodynamics by making different kinds of gliders from different materials. Compare lift, spin, and thrust with three different designs.

“STEAMpunk” is offered monthly, highlighting the work of a historic scientist through hands-on exploration. The content and activities are intended for ages 7 to 12.

The Museum of Nature & Science is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The museum is accessible through RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1, Stop 36.
